Benzodiazepine Receptors

   Benzodiazepine receptors - highly expressed in the liver - and abnormal hepatic metabolism have been suggested to participate in several neuropsychiatric disorders including autism (Tsuchiya et al, 2000).

   In 100% of autistic children liver dysfunction was seen (Edelson,1998).

   Benzodiazepine receptors are modulated by thyroid status. (Medina, 1985).
