Cell Death
Programmed cell death, sometimes referred to as apoptosis, is an essential part of normal development, particularly in the nervous system. Excesses and deficits in neuronal numbers have been observed in autism (i.e. Margolis et al, 1994)
It is well-established that the thyroid hormone system is involved in the control of programmed cell death (see: Labudova et al, 1999).
The role of Gq/11 in apoptosis is - of course - also established (i.e. Dulin et al, 2000).
