NEOPTERIN Increased neopterin levels are associated with activation of the cellular immune system and are therefore used as a marker cellular immunity activation. Autistic children demonstrate increased urinary levels of native neopterin (Messahel et al, 1998; Harrison et al, 1995). Thyroid hormones mediate urinary neopterin levels (Limanova et al, 1992).
