Lead

  Accardo et al. (1988) reviewed six cases of inner city black children with both infantile autism and lead poisoning.

• “In three cases, developmental deviance seems to have been present before the possible impact of lead toxicity. In two cases the lead poisoning may have contributed to the onset or acceleration of developmental symptomatology (Accardo et al, 1988).

   It is interesting to note that no attention was paid at all to the effects of lead during pregnancy.

   Lead has been known to cause thyroid disease for over 100 years.
